President Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) Živojin Rakočević said that the police solved the case of the murder of a journalist from Jagodina Milan Pantić and that journalist associations expect an indictment to be filed.
Pantić was killed on June 11, 2001, with blows to the head from behind, in front of his building in Jagodina, while he was returning with bought bread in slippers.
Previously, he wrote about corruption and abuses in Pomoravlje, especially about the cases of privatization of the cement plant in Paraćin and the Jagodinska brewery.
"The police solved the case and that is completely clear, that's why we expect and insist that an indictment be filed," said Rakočević for today's edition Evening news, a paper for which Pantić was a correspondent.
Rakočević assessed that the Working Group for solving the murders of journalists "did a great job", but that the case should be urgently taken over by the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime in Belgrade, which recently returned the files to Jagodina for the second time.
"It is necessary to remove those terrible, for most people incomprehensible obstacles, which work against the truth and the victims. We also have a declaration by the International Organization of Journalists, voted upon by the Association of Journalists of Serbia, which calls for an active resolution of this case. "A fair solution, regardless of the fatal passage of time, implies that both the perpetrators and the principals should be punished," Rakočević said.
