Šumarak settlement in Deliblato Sands was successfully defended and the fire did not enter households or affect residential buildings, the deputy mayor of Kovin Ratko Mosurović confirmed for RTS.
It was declared on the field emergency situation, and the biggest problem for the rescuers is the strong wind that constantly changes direction and fan the flames again and again.
Earlier today, the Ministry of Interior and the Department for Emergency Situations confirmed to RTS that more than 100 firefighters-rescuers from Kovino, Pančevo, Vršac and Bela Crkva were involved in the operation, with reinforcements from Belgrade, Zrenjanin, Smederevo and Novi Sad.
MUP helicopters operate from the air, continuously, by cyclically delivering and ejecting water, drenching the most critical points, while the heavy machinery of "Vojvodinašum" creates protective belts to prevent the flames from reaching the houses.

Six fires are burning.
According to the latest report submitted to the Operational Team of the Republic Headquarters for Emergency Situations, six open fires are currently active on the territory of Serbia, and four locations stand out - in the Deliblatska peščara, on the Stolovi mountain and in the town of Maglič near Kraljevo and the town of Gabrovnica near Zaječar.
125 firefighters-rescuers with 29 vehicles and two quads, 28 members of the Serbian Army with four vehicles and one work machine were engaged in extinguishing the fire in Deliblatska peščara, which covered 700 hectares. Also, the capacities of "Srbijavoda" with nine bulldozers, five low-loading trailers, 15 operators and three engineers and "Vojvodinašuma" and other available forces were engaged. Serbian MUP helicopters were also deployed at this location.
The municipality of Kovin introduced a state of emergency due to the fire, and some places have already been evacuated. Due to the fire in the area of Deliblatska peščara, in which the transmission line was also affected, there was an interruption in the supply of electricity to the settlements of Dubovac and Šumarak, which resulted in an interruption in the water supply, since the pumps could not function without electricity.
According to the latest information, the water supply to the settlements of Dubovac and Šumarak has meanwhile been established through aggregates. In other settlements, there are no interruptions in water supply to the population for now.
In the territory of Kovin Municipality, there is still a problem of reduced pressure in the water supply network, and the drop in pressure occurs due to increased water consumption, primarily due to the use of water from hydrants for firefighting purposes, as well as increased watering of grassy areas in households, in order to reduce the risk of new fires.
The fire on Mount Stolovi affected dry grass, low vegetation and deciduous forest on an area of 200 hectares, and the intervention of the competent services is ongoing. When it comes to the fire in the town of Maglič, an area of about 170 hectares was affected and it was localized yesterday in the afternoon.
The fire in the town of Gabrovnica covered about 100 hectares, it was localized on Thursday morning, and smoke appears sporadically in the valley, which is why the teams are still on duty.
