Civil proceedings against the parents of the boy who died in Elementary school "Vladislav Ribnikar" committed a mass murder in May 2023, according to the complaint of a wounded history teacher, it was concluded today in the High Court in Belgrade after the boy's father was heard Vladimir Kecmanović.
Kecmanović expressed regret and sadness for what the history teacher Tatjana Stevanović experienced and lived through and added that he is ready to talk to her if she feels the need to do so.
He talked about the weapon with which his son shot at school and killed nine of his peers and school guards, and wounded six others, as well as why he took his son to the shooting range to practice shooting.
He says that he kept the weapon in a special box that he bought in a specialized store where weapons and equipment are sold, because the associated box does not have a lock with a code.
"No one knew the code, nor did K. ever ask me what it was. He was probably searching on the Internet how to pick the lock on the box that contained the weapon," claimed Kecmanović.
When asked by the judge whether he knew which websites his son was visiting and whether he had control over it, Vladimir Kecmanović replied that he did have an insight, but he did not see anything that would be "debatable".
Shot the teacher who "taught him a love of history"
He then added that he has no explanation as to why his son shot the history teacher who "gave him a love of history" and also shot his best friend with whom he went to a history competition.
When asked by the representative of the history teacher if he thinks the tragedy would have happened if he had not taken his son to the shooting range and if he had not had weapons in the house, Kecmanović avoided giving a direct answer.
To an additional question from the attorney that he, as someone who spent the most time with K., say whether he knows what led his son to commit such a crime, Kecmanović said that his son spent most of his time at school, and "the school did not notice anything unusual in his behavior."
The boy's mother, Miljana Kecmanović, was also summoned to the court to be heard in this process, but she never appeared, nor did she justify her absence.
That's why the judge decided even earlier not to call her anymore and that the court will take this into account when passing the verdict.
