"Vremena" journalist Jelena Jorgacevic Kisić, winner of the "Đoko Vještica" award

The journalist of the daily "Kurir" Jelena Spasić and the assistant editor-in-chief of the weekly "Vreme" Jelena Jorgacevic Kisić will be presented with the award for journalistic humanity "Đoko Vještica" at the UNS Press Center today at noon.

Spasić and Jorgacevic Kisić received the UNS "Đoko Vještica" prize for a series of texts about the sick homeless man Radet Drini.

Winners Jelena Spasić and Jelena Jorgacevic Kisić, as stated in the proposal for the award, in January of this year, through journalistic reporting, made it possible for the homeless man Rade Drina, who was suffering from lung cancer and was not able to be treated, to receive the necessary medical help. and to spend his last days with dignity.

First, Jelena Jorgacevic wrote an article about Radet Drini, and then her colleague Jelena Spasić from "Kurir" joined her, and together, with the help of articles published in "Kurir" and "Vremen", they launched an action.

The award was decided by a jury composed of: Milan Popović (last year's award winner and president of the jury), Branislav Baćović (donor), Aleksandar Simić, Gordana Eror, as well as Miloš Bato Milatović.

Journalist Đoko Vještica is known for organizing humanitarian actions and launching numerous initiatives for beautifying Belgrade and green areas in the capital.

He was born on May 9, 1939 in the village of Otric in the municipality of Gračac (Croatia). He started his journalistic career in the newspaper "Borba", and together with his colleagues from this newspaper, he founded Radio Studio B in 1970.

UNS awarded him the "Svetozar Marković" award in 1976, and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.

He passed away on November 18, 2008.

The award for journalistic humanity "Đoko Vještica" was established by UNS three years after his death. It is awarded for contributions that move and motivate individuals and the public to achieve humane actions and goals, criticize socially irresponsible behavior in society and encourage solidarity and reciprocity.
