The new protest of the opposition coalition "Serbia Against Violence" (SPN) will begin in front of the Republican Election Commission on Tuesday, January 16, at 18 p.m., the organizers announced on Friday. On that day, six years ago, he was killed in Kosovska Mitrovica Oliver Ivanovic.
The co-president of the Green-Left Front (ZLF), Biljane Đorđević, says that the vice-president of the Freedom and Justice Party (SSP), Marinika Tepić, who ended the twelve-day protest at the end of last year, will address the demonstrators in front of the RIK. hunger strike due to electoral manipulation.
Candles for Oliver Ivanovic
After that, the demonstrators will start a walk from the RIK and light candles in the Church of St. Mark.
"We certainly gathered on the anniversary of the murder of Oliver Ivanovic and lit candles, and then when we thought about the date, it became obvious that it was the date that was coming. His murder is a brutal manifestation of violence. "Oliver said before his death that the crime and violence that happens in the north will come to Belgrade, and in a way we can see those connections," Đorđević told Vreme.
The former leader of the civic initiative "Serbia, Democracy, Justice" was killed in 2018 in North Mitrovica, Kosovo, in front of the party premises. The murder has not been solved to this day.
ProGlas call is uncertain
Despite announcements that the informal initiative ProGlas could jointly with "Serbia against violence" call for a protest on January 16, Đorđević says that he does not expect that.
"I would like ProGlas to call for a protest, like everyone else, but I don't expect that to happen at this moment," says Đorđević.
About the possibility of calling the ProGlas initiative to the opposition's protest he spoke for "Vreme" Professor Miodrag Jovanović of the Faculty of Law, one of the first signatories of ProGlas.
"I know as much about that protest as everyone else who follows the media, and I think the situation is similar with the other initiators of ProGlas," said Jovanović.
"That tells you at the same time how and to what extent ProGlas is involved in the organization of that gathering." The reason is clear to us, but at first glance it is difficult to connect it to the problems that occupy us at the moment. When we know more details, we will decide accordingly," he explained
He added that the idea of the initiator of ProGlas was not "to serve as a kind of service to every political action that takes place".
The fight to annul the election
