Led by Nikola Jokić, the Denver Nuggets became champions for the first time in the history of the NBA. The team from Colorado defeated Miami 94:89 in the fifth match of the grand final and achieved the greatest success of the franchise with a total score of 4:1 in the series. In the fifth match, Jokić was the most effective with 28 points, with 16 rebounds and four assists, and as MVP of the series he was ranked among the best world centers of all time.

Led by Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets beat the Miami Heat 94-89 at home on Monday to win their first title, with the crowd in a trance.

Nikola Jokić played another great game, he was the most efficient with 28 points, 16 rebounds and four assists, and after him, Caldwell-Pope and Bruce Brown were the heroes of the victory in the fifth game.

The two-time MVP was followed by Porter Jr. with 16 points, Murray added 14, Brown 10, and Caldwell-Pope 14 points. For the Heat, Butler scored 21 points, while Bem Adebayo scored 20 with 12 rebounds.

Both teams started the game nervously, but after Denver made a 10:0 run (12:5), it seemed that the Nuggets would take control.

Due to a confluence of unforeseen circumstances, an unexpected turn occurred. Nikola Jokic first committed two quick fouls, and Malone had to take him out of the game. Gordon and Green ran into the same problem, and the experienced Deandre Jordan had to step into the Nuggets racket.

Miami took good advantage of the problem that Denver got into, but not the best, since the impression was that they had to make a much bigger advantage, both because of the poor play of the host, and because of personal mistakes of important players.

Michael Malone's team was constantly behind in the second quarter and never managed to catch that recognizable rhythm. They hit poorly, but they were good at jumping, and with that weapon they stayed in the game.

"The work is done, now we can go home"

Nikola Jokić was declared the most valuable player of the final series of the NBA League, in which Denver won the first title in the history of the club thanks to him.

The Serbian ace played the entire playoff in a fantastic way. It seems incredible that during the playoffs he achieved as many as ten triple-doubles, which made him unsurpassed, considering that the previous record holder could boast of seven such performances.

After the match, Jokic had his own little show. He modestly commented on the feeling of being the NBA champion after being asked by a reporter after the match, but relaxed at the conference.

However, the most interesting was Jokić's reaction immediately after the match to a journalist's question about how it feels to be an NBA champion.

"It feels good, good. The work is done, now we can go home," said the Serbian ace.

Nikola Jokić on the way to the stars

Is the number of titles won the only measure of how great a player you are in NBA history? Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson, Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Pete Maravich and many others failed to do so. The Denver Nuggets with Nikola Jokić are in the NBA Finals. If Jokić takes the title, by American standards, he will become one of the best centers in history. There is no center who has had a greater impact on the game of a team, and that is obvious, but it is even more clear that he changed the history of basketball

The only Jokers of Serbia

"Two top aces can be an example that 'nothing is impossible' and that each of us, if we invest in ourselves, can reach perhaps not exactly Djokovic and Jokic, but some level that implies recognition and merit, regardless of what comes from society which is on the European periphery and which, what is especially important, often perceives itself collectively as a victim of everything and everyone", says anthropologist Ivan Đorđević for "Vreme". "We don't have to be ardent fans of a particular sport or athlete, so we will react similarly," continues Ana Orlić, associate professor of psychology from the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education. "His victory will also be ours"
