From the highest place, from the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, came a message that the "MI - Voice of the People" movement would have to enter into a coalition with the Progressives and the Socialists in Belgrade so that they could form a government together. The founder and best-known representative of this movement, Branimir Nestorović, was most decisively opposed to this, who, according to the announcement published today, left it.
U announcement on the website of the Movement it is stated: "During the process of transformation of the Movement 'MI - Voice of the People' there were certain misunderstandings within the leadership, the group of seven founders, so Dr. Branimir Nestorović and Aleksandar Pavić demonstratively left yesterday, February 20, 2024 Movement".
"In the shadow of misunderstandings and insinuations against some of the founders, Dr. Branimir Nestorović then ultimately demanded that he be the president of that party, even though it was agreed to remain with the original principle of collective leadership consisting of seven founders." "Dr. Nestorović's ultimatum was not supported by the majority of the founders during the vote, and he then demonstratively left the Movement, followed by Aleksandar Pavić," the announcement reads.
The movement, however, "continues with its planned work and transformation into a political party," it says. It will be managed by the "Movement Council", which consists of the five remaining founders: Siniša Ljepojević, prof. Dr. Mitar Kovač, Prof. Dr. Jovan Janjić, Branko Pavlović and Dragan Stanojević,
Therefore, say those who remained, "in the work of the Movement, everything remains as before and the planned goals are being achieved."
In other words, the attempt to break the Movement failed and the work continues without those who tried to break it. Time will show what were the real motives and goals of breaking the Movement".
Nestorović resolutely opposed the entry of Pokrtet into a collision with the SNS and the SPS, which together hold 54 of the 110 councilor mandates in the Belgrade Assembly. "MI - Voice of the People" has 6 council seats.
The problem of the majority in Belgrade still remains, because councilors are the owners of mandates that have been won, not parties and movements. Nevertheless, Nestorović was the one who most resolutely refused cooperation with SNS at the city level.
Until now, Vučić has always strived to form identical coalitions at the republican level.
