"The assessment of Srbijavod and Vojvodinavod is that this peak will last seven days. Let me remind you that in 2013, when the water level of the Danube was higher, the last time the Danube had a higher water level in our country, the peak lasted for 14 days. This is a somewhat shorter peak and that should indicate to us that we do not expect major problems," said the Prime Minister.
He estimated that the situation will be somewhat more challenging on the first part of the Danube's course through Serbia, from Bezdan to Slankamen, while from Slankamen downstream towards Belgrade and Djerdap, expert civil services do not expect major problems.
"What is now an advantage concerns the dry period that we had behind us - almost two and a half months without rain and the energy capacities concerning hydroelectric plants are empty and this increased water flow will come in handy." "But we have to carefully monitor what is happening, above all in this upper course of the Danube river entering our country," said Vucevic.
He repeated that the water level will be slightly higher on the Danube, while a slightly more challenging situation is expected around the Sava river near the town of Šabac, but he points out that the situation should not endanger normal life.
"So we don't expect any endangerment of property, nor any endangerment of human lives," concluded Vucevic.
He estimated that in some places from Bezdan to Slankamen there could be an extraordinary level of defense, but added that no major problems are expected and told the media that there is no room for panic and asked for professionalism in reporting.
On the other hand, he pointed out that those facilities on the Danube that are illegal could be at risk and warned the owners of those facilities to pay attention to the instructions issued by the Headquarters for Emergency Situations.
Vučević stated that he expects engagement and involvement of his capacities, both of local self-governments and services such as RHMZ, Srbijavoda, Vojvodinavoda.
When it comes to the Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Interior, he says that he insisted to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dačić, that the Headquarters for Emergency Situations must have a regular flow of activities, bring systemic solutions and must meet regularly, and not only when there are emergency situations.
"The good news is that Srbijavode and the Ministry of Agriculture are preparing a project for Obrenovac, which will receive permanent protection, so that the things we had in 2014 never happen again. We will have a project by the fall of next year, on the complete protection of Obrenovac," said the Prime Minister.
