The police responded to Europride's complaint yesterday within the legal deadline, and rejected it. The Ministry of Interior therefore stands by its ban on the Europride walk, which would have ended this European manifestation in Belgrade on Saturday, September 17.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs made another decision today: all matches of the Serbian Super League that were planned for Saturday will have to be postponed, and the decision was made for security reasons.
The next step of the Europride organizers is to appeal to the Administrative Court, which has a legal obligation to respond to them before the march takes place.
"We are not surprised by this decision of the police, but this is just one more reason in a series of reasons why I say that on Saturday, September 17 at 17 p.m. we will walk for our basic human rights." We will walk for love, freedom and solidarity," said Europride coordinator Goran Miletić.
The Constitutional Court of Serbia has already passed four judgments that the ban on Pride is unconstitutional.
The practice of the European Court of Human Rights dictates that the state does not have the right to ban Pride for security reasons, but is obliged to provide a sufficient number of police officers and guarantee the safety of those gathered.
Yesterday, on Tuesday, the Ministry of Interior issued a decision not to allow the walk of the participants of Europride 2022, as well as the procession of anti-globalists, both announced for September 17. After the security assessment, it was determined that there is a high risk that the safety of the participants of both walks on the announced routes will be endangered, as well as the safety of other citizens - explained the MUP.
