The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksiy Reznikov, announced on his Facebook profile that "the situation at the front is difficult", as well as that "the Ukrainian army is losing hundreds of soldiers every day". Reznikov added that their forces "have a significant amount of weapons", which would be "enough to defeat any army in Europe, but not the Russian one".
The fighting for Northern Donetsk is probably decisive for the control of the territory in eastern Ukraine, and that is why the fighting is fierce. The Russians currently hold most of the city, except for the industrial zone, which the Ukrainian special forces managed to recover. The Ukrainian army also went on the offensive, but the Russians respond to each advance with stronger artillery fire, which they shower on the city.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said that "the fate of Donbass is being decided in North Donetsk".
On Thursday, the provisional court of the pro-Russian, self-proclaimed People's Republic of Donetsk sentenced three foreign citizens - two British and one Moroccan - to death for participating in the war on the Ukrainian side. They previously surrendered to Russian soldiers and should have the status of prisoners of war according to the Geneva Convention.
