End of an era and additional questions

After three decades, Milo Đukanović lost the last lever of power. However, the support that Jakov Milatović received from almost all constituents of the loose and often conflicted parliamentary majority will not exist after the presidential elections. It will be an open conflict of allies with often diametrically opposed political, ideological and all other interests. Already in these days, everyone will return to seriously questioning how much the final victory over Đukanović harmed everyone individually.

Less than an hour after the counting of votes in the elections for the President of Montenegro ended on Sunday, the counting of flags on the city streets and the keeping of statistics of their origin, size and number began: how many Serbian, how many national Montenegrin, crusader flags, flags of the Principality of Montenegro. The representatives of the international community were caught in the trap of these statistics, concluding that there were disappointingly few EU flags, which is inconsistent with the very name of the Europe Now Movement (PES), whose representative became the new president of Montenegro.

The iconography was almost identical to the one that happened in Montenegrin cities after the August 2020 elections, when DPS became an opposition party for the first time in its history.

The victory in the presidential elections gives PES a new wind at its back and it seems that the wave on which they rose can turn into a tsunami that will completely change the Montenegrin political scene. If the extraordinary parliamentary elections are held on June 11, as things stand now, PES will be in danger of becoming the prime minister's chair and the position of the strongest parliamentary party.
