Kosovo: KFOR forcibly disperses citizens in Zvečan

After several hundred Serbs refused to comply with KFOR's ultimatum to move away from Kosovo police vehicles that were surrounded by Serb people, KFOR attacked the demonstrators with batons, stun grenades and tear gas.

Strong forces of KFOR started to break up the gathering of citizens gathered in front of the municipality of Zvečan. They used tear gas and shock bombs to disperse the citizens. The gathered citizens retaliated with oysters, bottles and other objects. KFOR, with soldiers armed with long pipes and equipment for breaking up demonstrations, was deployed in front of the municipal buildings in Zvečan, Leposavic and Zubin Potok.

KFOR carried out an action to move two armored police vehicles with special forces that were surrounded by citizens.

As the RTS correspondent reports, there are injuries, and the conflict is spilling over into other parts of the city. Several ambulances have so far gone from the direction of Kosovska Mitrovica to Zvečan.

Serbs demand the withdrawal of KFOR

The Serbian List and the citizens demand that the newly elected Albanian mayor does not come to the municipal building and that the special Kosovo police withdraw immediately. The US ambassador in Pristina invited the newly elected Albanian mayors to a meeting. Classes have been suspended in schools in the north of Kosovo.
