Member of Parliament from Bujanovac Shaip Kamberi announced today that mandatory military service would be unacceptable for the Albanian community in the Preševo Valley.
Kamberi stated on Facebook that the Albanians from Medveđa, Bujanovac and Preševo must reject such a request from Serbia to serve in the army.
He added that the announcements of mandatory military service in Serbia are a "strategic marketing move" by President Aleksandar Vučić.
"Serbia today is not threatened by any neighboring country, on the contrary, the case of September 24 last year in Banjska showed the violation of the integrity of the neighboring countries and who is the target of the aggressors." The region needs peace and progress, otherwise these war-mongering decisions will only take us back to the XNUMXs," Kamberi said.
Already in the first days of 2024, the Minister of Defense Miloš Vučević stated that the General Staff and the Ministry launched such an initiative towards the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, for the return of mandatory military service.
The expert evaluated this pose in recognition of the collapse of the professional military in the progressive era.
As "Vreme" wrote, in the absence of better topics, when the public's attention is focused on some other things, such as the investigation of how and who voted in Belgrade, the government switches to "judgmental defense" - to raise the issue of return again, who knows how many times since 2017 obligations of military service, which was "suspended in 2011.
The question is, where does this proposal come from now, when until now it has been successfully announced that we have enough soldiers to fulfill all the tasks assigned to them? This is how it has been presented so far for the purposes of raising internal tensions in the country and, especially, to paint a picture of Vučić and his ministers, including those situations when the army was exhausted by pointlessly sending it to the dividing line with Kosovo.
On the occasion of the January announcement - another in a long series - of the possible return of mandatory military service, military analyst Katarina Đokić she said that, to begin with, the barracks are in bad condition, that it is necessary to restore them and that this infrastructure costs money: "During the reform of the defense system in the first decade of this century, the number of units was reduced, so a large number of military facilities - therefore also the barracks - put out of use. Although, despite the plans at the time, most of the barracks were not sold or exchanged, they have been neglected for 20 years and a lot of investment is needed in their restoration. It has already started in Loznica, there were announcements that some garrison places in eastern Serbia will be rebuilt, and even a completely new barracks will be built in Priboj, but we don't see anything happening in practice."
