The City Committee of the New Democratic Party of Serbia unanimously decided not to participate in the Belgrade elections on June 2 because "there are no elementary conditions for their fair and honest holding."
The City Committee of the New Democratic Party of Serbia (Novi DSS) Belgrade announced that it has made a unanimous decision not to participate in the elections on June 2 and thus supported the position of the highest party authorities.
"The new DSS will not participate in the so-called elections announced by the President of the Assembly Ana Brnabić, neither in the city nor in the municipal elections in Belgrade, because there are no elementary conditions for their fair and honest holding," the announcement states.
According to the opinion of the Belgrade board of the New DSS, the government did not show its willingness to fulfill the requirements for organizing the voter list and opening the media and thereby ensure the minimum conditions for their maintenance.
"Any participation in such so-called elections would mean giving legitimacy to the ruling regime and undemocratic principles that, by abusing institutions and the media, destroy the electoral will of the citizens," the announcement states, adding that such a thing is absolutely unacceptable for the New DSS.
This party said that the event scheduled for June 2nd in Belgrade simply cannot be considered an election, pointing out that they resolutely refuse to participate in the "performance directed by Aleksandar Vučić and US Ambassador Christopher Hill."
"They are playing with us"
The president of the New DSS, Miloš Jovanović, said that it "doesn't occur to him" to run in the elections. According to him, Aleksandar Vučić denied Ana Brnabić saying that it has not yet been decided that the elections will be unified.
"It confirms that they are playing with us." "It doesn't occur to them to fix or work on fixing the election conditions," Jovanović points out.
Defeat for both sides
The Movement for the Restoration of the Kingdom of Serbia (POKS) warned that the disunity of the opposition in its position regarding participation or non-participation in the elections means the defeat of both parties. POKS proposed that both sides of the coalition Serbia against Nazism, as well as the rest of the opposition, make a decision on conditional participation in the elections until May 18, when the last day for the withdrawal of already submitted electoral lists is.
The President of the POKS Executive Board, Nenad Tomašević, explaining the proposal, said that the day before, that is, on May 17, the opposition should jointly assess whether the commission for control of the credibility of the voter list expelled voters with false residences or not, and based on that, the final decision should be made a joint and unified decision on the withdrawal of all electoral lists of the opposition or participation in the elections on June 2.
"We propose that the person authorized to submit the electoral list of the SPN and its possible withdrawal together with others from the opposition be in charge of a non-party person from ProGlas, which both parties agree on," said Tomašević.
He says that what is common and must not be a subject of dispute in the opposition is that the first condition - a purified voter list - must be fulfilled, that is, to prevent several tens of thousands of fake voters with fictitious residence addresses from voting and influencing the results of the elections in Belgrade. and other cities.
"It is fundamentally important that the opposition has a unified position on whether or not to participate in the elections, and we must all work on this with dedication and responsibility and make concessions and compromises," said Tomašević.
The regime steals time
On the other hand, the Belgrade committee of the party Together made a decision on the collective withdrawal from the party membership, due to the fact that the party leadership did not accept the will of the majority of the members of the city committee to participate in the Belgrade elections on June 2.
The city committee, which gathers local committees, members and activists of the party from the territory of all Belgrade municipalities, will immediately start preparations for going to the elections in cooperation with partners from the coalition "Serbia against violence" who announced going to the elections, according to the announcement.
Regarding the decision of the Zajedno party to exclude Đorđe Miketić from the party after he announced that the city committee of that party will participate in the Belgrade elections, Miketić tells "Vreme" that the regime deliberately steals time, while on the other hand the wheels of the GSP kill people on the street.
Divisions in the coalition "Serbia against violence"
The Freedom and Justice Party, Srce and Zajedno maintain the position that they should not go to the elections on June 2, while the Green-Left Front, the People's Movement of Serbia, the Ecological Uprising, the Movement of Free Citizens, the New Face of Serbia and the Democratic Party are determined to go to the elections. party.
"We are aware that the election conditions are not good and that SNS has no intention of giving up malfeasance, but we tried to force them to back down and first repeat the stolen elections, and then make concessions." The fight for election conditions is yet to come, but we have neither the right nor the desire to leave anything to SNS. We intend to disempower them, local community by local community, municipality by municipality, city by city, and that is why we invite you to help us in this. The SNS will never give fair and honest elections, but we will never give up the fight either," the press release states.
The coalition also expressed its regret that the three organizations decided not to respect the decision of the majority and decided to boycott part of the election despite their desire to fight this fight together.
