This time they are calling for a protest. professor and the academic community on June 9, citing increasingly intense pressures on university autonomy, political and institutional repression of employees in higher education, and the continued collapse of public education as reasons.
The organizers want to send a clear message that education must not become a political instrument and that freedom of thought and scientific work are the foundation of every democratic society.
The protest participants have three key demands: disbanding the Working Group for drafting the new Law on Higher Education and starting an open, inclusive public discussion; immediate cancellation of the last changes Regulations on university work standards and elimination of its illegal effects, as well as the adoption of budget quotas for university enrollment by the end of June.
According to the initiative, the decree recently adopted by the Government of Serbia drastically reduces the space for scientific work and research activity, endangers the international position of universities in Serbia and represents an open punishment for employees who supported student blockades in previous months.
This, they warn, directly undermines the autonomy of universities and opens up space for political control over education.
It's not just salaries that matter.
"We are all at the crossroads - professors, students, and the whole society. This is at least a fight for illegally taken wages! This is a fight for free, public and quality education. If the university falls, so does the last line of defense for freedom of thought in Serbia," say the organizers.
They invited all employees in education, students, high school students, parents, as well as citizens who believe in the importance of knowledge, science and a free society to join them.
