Second constituent session Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM), at which the election of the president and deputy president of that body will continue, began at 13 p.m.
The agenda includes the election of the president of the REM Council and his deputy, after no agreement was reached at the constitutive session held on July 20 on the selection of leadership.
In the final round of the then secret ballot, the candidates Miloš Garić and Mileva Malešić won four votes each, while the election of the president requires the support of at least six of the eight members of the Council.
The session is chaired by the oldest member of the Council, Dubravka Valić Nedeljković, who stated after the previous session that three candidates were proposed for the post of president - Stevica Smederevac, Miloš Garić and Mileva Malešić. After the first round of voting, Garić and Malešić were shortlisted, but none of them managed to secure the required majority.
Valić Nedeljković then assessed that the members of the Council showed a constructive approach during the discussion and agreed on what kind of professional and professional qualifications the president of REM should have, including experience in the media and public space, as well as the length of his mandate.
Council member Miloš Garić expressed his expectation that an agreement will be reached by the end of the session, stating that there is a great chance that the members will agree on a solution for the election of the president in a collegial and professional atmosphere.
The president of the REM Council is decided by secret ballot by eight members of that body: Miloš Garić, Stevica Smederevac, Milan Petković, Snežana Miljković, as well as Dubravka Valić Nedeljković, Ira Prodanov Krajišnik, Mileva Malešić and Rodoljub Šabić, who previously resigned, but returned to the work of the Council after the National Assembly determined that their resignations had no legal effect.
