The Bureau of Social Research assessed that running a campaign for the Prime Minister from the position of head of state is unconstitutional and illegal and represents an act of corruption, and asks the Agency for Corruption and the Constitutional Court to review it
The Bureau of Social Research (Birodi) calls on the "Constitutional Court to determine whether Article 111 of the Constitution of Serbia, which stipulates that the president expresses national unity, has been violated."
Birodi assessed on September 12 that running the campaign for the Prime Minister from the office of the head of state unconstitutionally and illegally and that it represents an act of corruption, with the statement that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, uses the name, authority, influence and institutional possibilities of public office in order to gain political and electoral benefits.
"Vučić himself was aware that simultaneously performing the function of head of state and running a party campaign for prime minister was constitutionally and legally disputed, when he announced that he would resign from the post of president of Serbia and participate in the election campaign as a citizen," says Birodi.
It is added that such an announcement confirms that there is a clear difference between the performance of the citizen Vučić and political action from the position of the President of Serbia.
Birodi called on the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption to initiate proceedings against Vučić ex officio and without delay, establish a violation of the Law on Prevention of Corruption and impose the measure prescribed by law.
The Constitutional Court is called upon, if the election list of the Serbian Progressive Party whose name contains Vučić's name is announced, to act within its jurisdiction and determine whether Article 111 of the Constitution of Serbia, which stipulates that the president expresses national unity, has been violated.
"The president must represent all citizens of Serbia, regardless of their party, national or regional affiliation, and not use the presidential function for the promotion of one party and his own candidacy for the Prime Minister," claims Birodi.
