The United States of America has no role in the personnel decisions of the Serbian authorities and the US position on Aleksandar Vulin is well known and he remains under US sanctions, the US Embassy announced regarding Vulin's statement that he resigned from the position of head of the Security and Information Agency (BIA) because the US and the European Union are "seeking his head."
"We look forward to continuing to deepen our partnership with Serbia on the way to its full integration into Europe and the Euro-Atlantic community," stated the written response of the spokesperson of the US Embassy in Belgrade to the Voice of America.
Earlier today, Vulin announced that he resigned from the position of head of the BIA and emphasized that he did so because the USA and the EU "are looking for his head as a precondition for not imposing sanctions on Serbia."
Vulin noted that "he is not the cause of blackmail and pressure on Serbia and the Serbian world", but that he will not allow it to be a reason "for blackmail and pressure on Serbia and the Serbian world".
In July, the United States imposed sanctions on Vulin for alleged involvement in transnational crime, illegal narcotics operations, corruption and expanding Russian influence in the Balkans.
