"I began to look around the street and avoid going out after dark. My son was six years old at the time and it was difficult to explain to him why the police were visiting us every day. He went out to play in front of the building, and I watched him and thought that if someone really wanted to harm me, they could do it by harming my child. I reduced both my and his going out and reduced our life to only what was absolutely necessary. The fear grew and with me and with the whole family. As time went on, it was more and more difficult - not only for me, but also for my loved ones."

Women journalists against violence: Solidarity that changes the media landscape

In August 2025 alone, 25 physical attacks on media workers were recorded, of which in 14 cases they were attacked by police officers, the very ones whose duty it is to ensure our safety in the workplace. When online harassment, verbal threats and sexual harassment in newsrooms are added to that, it is clear that female journalists work in an environment of fear and insecurity

Changes started by female journalists and activists

In 2019, the identity of the victim was revealed in every other text, while in 2021, the number of posts in which this is done is 40 percent. In this period, the number of texts in which the act of violence is justified by external circumstances or personal characteristics of the abuser decreased (from 20 to 11 percent), and the responsibility for violence is less often shifted to the victim (from 10 to 7 percent of the analyzed posts).
