Half a century since the assassination of Salvador Allende
50 years ago, on September 11, 1973, Socialist President Salvador Allende was overthrown in a coup with far-reaching consequences in Chile, and General Augusto Pinochet established a dictatorship during which many suffered. Allende is a fading left-wing icon, and Pinochet is a bloody dictator for some in a divided Chile, and for others the creator of the Chilean economic miracle, according to the recipe of the "Chicago School of Economics".
