American president Donald tramp he stated that the administration in Washington will change the name in the coming days Ministry of Defense to the Ministry of War, in order to return the "warrior ethos" to the Pentagon.
The official name of the Pentagon after World War II was the Department of War, and Trump previously criticized the change of name to the Department of Defense, reports Politico.
"When we won World War I, World War II, it was called the War Department. And to me, that's really what it is," Trump said at a news conference with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.
The War Department existed from 1789 until 1947, when the administration of President Harry Truman split the department into the Army and Air Force and merged it with the then-independent Navy.
Truman named the new cabinet-level agency the Department of Defense, and intended the name change to give the Pentagon chief more centralized authority over the separate branches of the military, especially the Navy, which enjoyed considerable independence until the end of World War II.
Trump has hinted at the possibility of bringing back the name in recent weeks, calling Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth his "Secretary of War" at a NATO summit in June.
"If you look at the old building next to the White House, you can see where the Secretary of War used to be. Then we got politically correct and they called him Secretary of Defense," Trump said, emphasizing the importance of both defense and offense.
