The US ambassador to Greece has left her post after Donald Trump demanded her resignation. Media reports have raised questions about a possible conflict of interest in energy deals in the Balkans and an alleged request for $100.000 to cover private debt.
Kimberly Guilfoyle, US Ambassador to Greece, she resigned at the request of Donald Trump. This was preceded by media reports about a possible conflict of interest in energy deals in the Balkans and claims that she asked a Republican donor for $100.000 in credit card debt. She rejects the accusations and announces that she will defend her reputation.
US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle has left her post after the White House announced that President Donald Trump had requested her resignation. The former host of Fox News and ex-fiancée of the eldest son of the US president was part of the inner circle of the Trump family for years. Her diplomatic mandate in Athens ended after less than a year.
The reason for this is a series of "Wall Street Journal" articles about her behavior and business connections. The paper reported, among other things, that shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing in July 2025, she asked a Republican donor to settle her $100.000 American Express credit card debt.
According to The New York Times, which has chronicled her political rise and fall, the problems began last month, when the Journal raised the issue of a possible conflict of interest related to energy deals in the Balkans.
In her resignation statement, Guilfoyle called the accusation false and said she would vigorously defend her reputation. Trump, however, immediately distanced himself from her.
"She was not a member of my family. I think she was in a relationship with my son a long time ago," he told reporters in front of the White House, reports the New York Times.

Guilfoyle, 57, previously worked as a prosecutor in San Francisco and Los Angeles, then as a television host and legal commentator. She was married to Gavin Newsom, later governor of California and one of Trump's most vocal opponents among Democrats.
Her relationship with Donald Trump Jr. brought her to the center of the Republican political scene. Together they performed at rallies, participated in campaigns and lived in a house in Florida worth 9,7 million dollars.
Trump announced her appointment as ambassador to Greece in December 2024, a day after his son was seen leaving a restaurant holding hands with Bettina Anderson, his current wife. The timing fueled speculation that the diplomatic post was a way to distance Guilfoyle from the family circle after the break-up. Her allies rejected such an interpretation.

The arrival of Guilfoyle in Athens attracted a lot of attention from the Greek media. She flew in on the private jet of a wealthy Greek-American businessman, appeared at social events and frequented nightclubs. Some Greek officials, however, considered its proximity to the White House to be an important diplomatic advantage.
At the beginning of her mandate, she presented two major business projects: the development of a port near Athens with American support and the exploration of natural gas deposits near Corfu. Both projects were being prepared before her arrival, but Greek officials said, according to the New York Times, that she was involved in them even before taking office.
It was questions about business connections and a possible conflict of interest that later threatened her position. The publication of allegations that she was seeking money for a private debt added to the pressure, and Trump decided to ask for her resignation.
Guilfoyle was the first woman to head the US Embassy in Greece. In last year's interview with the "New York Times", she showed the list of ambassadors since 1948, on which there were only men before her.
Trump ally Kimberly Guilfoyle has resigned as US ambassador to Greece after reports of alleged misconduct before and during her tenure. Her lawyers deny wrongdoing. Guilfoyle addressed the accusations directly in a post on X, saying, "These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity."

Guilfoyle also had public contacts with Nikos Statopoulos, the president of BC Partners for Europe, during her tenure. Statopoulos announced on his Linkedin account that he hosted her at the Metropolitan College of Athens, an educational institution in the investment fund's portfolio.
BC Partners is the majority owner of United Group, which in May announced an agreement to sell Adria News Network to Alpac Capital. That media group includes, among others, N1, Nova S and Danas. At BC Partners, Statopoulos leads European investments in telecommunications and media, including United Group.
