After the armed attack in Washington in which two members of the National Guard were seriously wounded, US President Donald Trump called the act a "crime against humanity" and said that the perpetrators "will pay a high price".
President of the USA Donald tramp strongly condemned the attack on National Guard members on Wednesday near the White House calling it "an act of evil, terrorism and a crime against our nation and humanity." Two soldiers were seriously wounded.
"This is not just a crime — this is an attack on the very foundation of our country. It's a crime against a nation, a crime against humanity," Trump said.
"The animal that shot our soldiers will have to answer. They will pay a high price," said the US president in a post on the social network "Truth Social".
He announced that he will order a reconsideration of all asylum seekers and members of the refugee programs who arrived from Afghanistan, in light of today's attack.
In addition, Trump demanded the rapid deployment of additional security forces — in his address, he announced that the Pentagon is immediately sending an additional 500 members of the National Guard to Washington, in order to strengthen the protection of the capital.
"Our commitment to protecting American citizens and our law enforcement officers is strong," Trump said. "We will not allow incitement and violence to prevail in America."
His remarks sparked a fierce new political and security debate in the US — over immigration policy, refugee vetoes and the National Guard's role in policing the capital.

US suspends immigration applications from Afghans after shooting
US President Donald Trump's administration has suspended all immigration applications from Afghan nationals after a man who entered the US from Afghanistan in 2021 was identified as a suspect in a shooting that wounded two National Guardsmen near the White House.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that "processing of all immigration applications involving Afghan nationals has been suspended indefinitely" pending an additional review of security procedures, CBS reports.
Previously, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that suspect Rahmanullah Lakhanwal entered the US in September 2021 as part of Operation Allies Welcome, a program of former US President Joe Biden's administration aimed at Afghans who cooperated with US forces.
The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, said that it is necessary "to review every foreigner who entered the United States from Afghanistan under Biden" and to take all measures to remove people who, as he stated, "do not belong here or do not benefit the United States."
During the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, the US evacuated tens of thousands of people.
More than 85.000 Afghan nationals were later resettled in the US as part of the aforementioned operation, first in military bases and then in civilian environments after processing was completed.
Many qualified for special immigrant visas designed for translators and US military personnel, while others applied for asylum or visas based on family ties.
Some of them received temporary protection, such as humanitarian parole or temporary protected status, but without guaranteed permanent residence.
The Trump administration revoked temporary protected status for Afghanistan in July, affecting about 8.000 people.
While some Republican officials have expressed doubts about the scope and quality of security checks for years, the Biden administration has repeatedly emphasized that Afghans have undergone thorough vetting.
