A group of male students of the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka evaluates female students and puts them into categories - whether they are for rape or not, Croatian portal Index reports.
"My daughter sent me a link to a Reddit post that mentions the existence of a group that everyone knows about, but no one talks about," says the worried parent of a student at the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka.
He states that there are allegedly also female students who are on good terms with those students, so they do not want to report them.
"They even go so far as to call the girls 'rape' and 'non-rape' and, as usually happens in these situations, female students are afraid to come forward, because they don't have screenshots of those conversations and they are afraid of judgment from the environment. My daughter told me that everyone has known about that group for some time, but this Reddit post is the first public appearance and that's why she decided to send me that link," said the father to the Net.hr portal.
That portal states that a Reddit user heard that first-year medical students have a VocAp group in which they rank female students and probably other women into categories: violent, non-violent and violent, but under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
The female students who found out about it, who were categorized, did not report the case to the police or the faculty.
A Reddit user wonders how it is possible for future doctors to do this, people in whose hands other people's lives will be.
Others confirmed the story.
"It's true, I confirm. Word got out even to seniors. It's about Medicine in Rijeka. I don't know why they don't report it, and the characters are morons. I know that in our year, something like that would immediately go to the dean. From what I hear, most of the first-year teams find it funny. There was a recent meeting of year representatives and their representative didn't report anything. Apparently, many (female students) are good with them, so they don't want to ruin their future," wrote another Reddit user.
One learned about the case a few days ago from a group of female students from his year.
"They were all visibly upset about it. I'm glad now that it's spreading more and more. The more people talk about it, the sooner one of the victims will get the courage to report it, maybe already at the next student council," the student wrote.
Another one who introduced himself as a student of the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka wrote:
"It's true and, unfortunately, nothing was done except for their apology to those girls/victims only after they pressured them to do it. It's horrible, but I take my hat off to the victims. They're not my age and I know some of them only by sight, and if I knew all the names and surnames of the characters I would write publicly. Now at 18, they have such ideas, what kind of ideas will they have at 28, 38??? In my opinion, that's for expulsion from college and a ban on any kind of work with people, and their names should be known publicly and at the national level. Unfortunately, it was topical for a few days and was forgotten," said a Reddit user.
"The girls didn't report anything because they didn't have proof"
"I heard about this from a friend who was put in the category of rapist under the influence of alcohol. Now of course the girl does not leave the apartment at all, does not go out on weekends and avoids male contact," he writes in the comments.
One explained that the girls didn't report anything because there was no one to attach the list as proof. The only evidence that allegedly exists is a voicemail from one of the actors that he mistakenly sent to the wrong group saying "we apologized, but we shouldn't have apologized at all."
The faculty and student council have not announced this. Also, the police, upon inquiry by the Net.hr portal, said that they had no information about it.
