"Last month, the European Union started drafting the treaty on the accession of Montenegro," said the President of the European Council Antonio Costa is in Tivat, at the Summit EU-Western Balkans.
"What we have achieved in just 20 years is extremely impressive. I want to mention some important results that show the flywheel for enlargement. Last month, the European Union started drafting the treaty on the accession of Montenegro, for the first time since 2013. We are really counting down the days until enlargement, so that Montenegro becomes the 28th member by 2028," Košta said.
"Last week, an intergovernmental conference was held with Albania, where the next phase in the enlargement process was opened. In addition, the Commission proposed to close three chapters with Albania," Košta said.
Košta also said that the Government of Serbia "presented a concrete calendar for the adoption of missing elements of electoral laws and reforms".
"And to finish reforms in the judiciary in accordance with the recommendations of the ODIHR and the Venice Commission in the coming weeks," Košta said.
