The whistles followed. Star during smooth defeat by Hapoel Ber Sheva and shocking relegation from the game for the Champions League. In the triangle of Zvezdan Terzić, former coach Dejan Stanković and fan Sever - all of them, in one way or another, are in business with the regime and they are doing quite well.
The story of Zvezda's dominance on the home field and the business model is the headline of the new issue of Vremena, which is on newsstands from this Thursday (August 20).
Business before sports
Vojkan Kostić's text questions the fact that Zvezda is a champion for a full decade before the championship takes place. "This is shared by a large number of sports journalists who do not see anything unusual in a club being unbeaten on their home ground in 159 games in a row, and we are not talking about Real Madrid during the reign of Francisco Franco."
But is it primarily about sports "success"? "The data justify the assessments that Zvezda is predominantly a business and not a sports project. So, it is a club that uses its privileged position to attract everything that is valuable in the territory of Serbia and the surrounding countries, plus to buy some solid foreigners and then make some profit on the market."
The grumbling of the West
In the match against Hapoel, there were whistles and shouts from the West. The northern tribune, of course, did not participate in that.
"It is possible that all the people who dared to verbally express their position that evening were not angry only because of bad tactics or the increase in diesel prices, but that there are also some political motives that could become very important in the face of the announced special elections."
