The Ministry of Culture did not want to help any of the three programs of the U10 Art Space, which has been an important point of the domestic contemporary art scene for almost a decade, which U10 commented on with its daily program in August of participants from Serbia and the world
Despite the decision of the Ministry of Culture not to allocate a single dinar to the U10 Art Space in Belgrade, from August 1 to 31, every day, the artistic program "Plestelin" prepared by the "Stereovision" platform will be held in this space.
"Plastelin" is, among other things, intended as a comment on the perennially devastating working conditions in culture.
Art space U10, which runs the gallery of the same name in Belgrade, was founded in 2015. This year, he proposed three programs to the annual competition for visual arts of the Ministry of Culture of Serbia and, as mentioned, the Ministry rejected all three.
Noting that the Ministry has so far positively evaluated their programs, they say that this money greatly contributed to maintaining the continuity of their work, reminding that they are considered one of the important points of the domestic contemporary art scene, especially in the domain of institutions dealing with the affirmation of creators of the younger generation.
The proposed projects are: Annual program of the Art Space U10, exhibition of Master's students of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade - Masterpieces VI, and the project They told me that the planet has nerve endings.
They remind that contemporary dance creativity, along with other performance forms, was denied funds for co-financing projects in 2023 by the Ministry of Culture, and that for inexplicable reasons the City of Belgrade did not even announce competitions this year.
The "Plestelina" program will have more than 25 works by more than 30 authors from Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, and Taiwan.
The program consists of dance performances, performances, workshops (dance, collage, engaged work), guest appearances at the contemporary dance festival, public listening to music from contemporary dance performances, promotion of a book on performance art, theater performances, showing works in progress, sound and voice performances, multimedia exhibitions, open musical dance jams, screening of experimental films...
"Plestelin" is a co-production of "Stereovizija" and U10, with the support of "Stanica" Service for Contemporary Dance and the Magacin Cultural Center.
