Instead of Film meetings, this year's 60th August since their establishment, "Meetings at the Fortress", a replacement for the mentioned festival, are taking place in Niš.
The jubilee and above all famous festival was canceled by the Association of Film Actors of Serbia (co-organizer with the City of Niš) as a reflection of the current political and social situation. The Assembly of the City of Niš, however, decided that primarily because of the money allocated for the festival, some film manifestation must be held.
This is how the "Meeting at the Fortress" came about, which, as reported by "Južne Vesti", takes place in front of the almost literally empty huge auditorium of the Niš Fortress.
"There will be a recapitulation of legendary film productions that have been broadcast since the founding of the festival until today, which is a total of six decades. This will be an opportunity for the Nis film audience to remember the classics and enjoy the productions that marked the entire film era that Nišlije witnessed from the first row", stated the City Assembly.
"Meetings in the Fortress" began on Saturday with a ceremonial opening and films When I'm dead and white i Some other woman in the empty Fortress, although tickets for this event are free.
By the end of "Encounter" until August 29, documentaries, a monodrama by Petar Božović, are planned A man told me, movies Three tickets to Hollywood, Free gunpowder, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and concerts.
Dragan Milić, the leader of the citizens' group that bears his name, says that "as soon as this freakish and harmful government in Niš leaves power, they will create a magnificent festival of acting that will be remembered."
"Incompetent gentlemen, city leaders, you who insult the intelligence of all Nišli and call them Ustashas, you who think that history begins with you, you who tried and succeeded in extinguishing a magnificent event that has been going on for 60 years - Film Meetings, you got a message from Nišli about what they think of you and your fake festivals. In a city of 250.000 people who love film, not a few dozen people came. It is sad to see an empty summer stage," said Milić.
Regardless of everything, the City of Nis boasted of this event,
"As always at the end of August, Niška Fortress will traditionally be a gathering place for all generations, a place of laughter, socializing, film art and good energy," they announced.
