Kovacic naive painting, an element of the intangible cultural heritage of Serbia, was entered on December 3 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, announced the Ministry of Culture of Serbia.
In 2012, Kovačica naive painting was entered into the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Serbia, and it refers to the knowledge and skills of painting and painting objects with expressive depictions of folk life, rural environment and everyday life, which developed as a special form of naive art in the town of Kovačica in the 20s. year of the XNUMXth century - it is written in the announcement of the Ministry.
From Kovačica, painting spread to other places, primarily in AP Vojvodina, such as Padina, Aradac, Vojlovica, Pančevo and others, and in the second half of the 20th century it gained wide national and international visibility.
The Ministry emphasizes that "the inclusion of Kovačić's naive painting on the UNESCO Representative List significantly contributes to increasing the visibility of the intangible cultural heritage at the national and local level, as well as to the international promotion of the 'living heritage' of Serbia".
Serbia has so far registered five elements on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage: Family Glory (2014), Kolo, a traditional folk dance (2017), Singing with the fiddle (2018), Zlaku pottery (2020) and Social practices and knowledge related to the preparation and use of the traditional plum drink - šljivovice (2022).
