On Tuesday, the 13th Belgrade Festival of European Literature, organized by the publishing house "Archipelag", will begin, and its audience will be able to watch readings by famous writers who are exclusive guests of the Festival, as well as a panel on contemporary literature and culture, in Dom omladine until June 6.
Conceived as a week of top literature, the 12th Belgrade Festival of European Literature takes place under the motto: "The best of everything." The best for everyone."
The guests of the Belgrade Festival of European Literature are the German novelist Luka Kizer, whose novel Because there was something in the water Nominated for the German Literary Prize in 2023, one of the most important contemporary Slovenian writers, Gabrijela Babnik, one of the authors of the anthology edition of 100 Slovenian novels, Spanish essayist, political scientist and Balkanologist Miguel Roan, author of a book about contemporary Belgrade, as well as one of the most important contemporary Serbian prose writers writer Veselin Marković, who has been living in Strasbourg for the last few years.
Gojko Božović, founder and editor-in-chief of Archipelago, tells Vreme that he is looking forward to "a new meeting with readers at the Belgrade Festival of European Literature." We've had this support for thirteen years, and that's why we continue with these meetings with European and Serbian writers, discussing new books and books that marked our reading experience, about new issues of culture and literature."
He points out that "the Belgrade Festival of European Literature is a festival of author's literature. That is the driving reason for this Festival and the basis for the selection of authors and for the selection of topics at this Festival."
"When I talk about author's literature, I mean literature that has not given up on researching the poetics it speaks with and the world it represents, literature that asks questions without being satisfied even with existing questions, and especially not with existing answers, literature that has not given up on ideas, to literature that is the art of words and an expression of freedom, to literature that is not politically correct, nor is it satisfied with any social desirability". Gojko Božović says.
The festival is, of course, a non-profit event, all events are open to visitors.
The Belgrade Festival of European Literature is one of the most visited literary events in Serbia. His audience is very diverse in terms of generation, because the target group is much wider than the usual audience of literary events.
