"Some of them will have their world premiere at the Fest. The program will include films from this year's production, and a smaller number of them from 2025. Of course, a large number of films come from the biggest festivals, and with awards at those festivals," announces Dragan Jeličić.
This means that we can say that this October, after a two-year break, the Fest will still be held.
Zafranović and Sava Center
According to the announcement of the organizers, the Center of Belgrade Festivals (CEBEF), the 53rd Fest will begin with the premiere of a film by a Croatian and Yugoslav director. Lordan Zafranović "Zlatni rez 42 (Children of Kozare)" about the suffering of children in the Jasenovac concentration camp in 1942.
After six years, the opening and Gala program of the Fest will be held in the Sava Center, which is also a confirmation of the efforts of the entire team to restore the splendor of the festival for which it was known. Other selections will be shown in nine Belgrade cinemas.
"Golden Ratio 42"
Zafranović's film "Zlatni rez 42 (Djeca Kozare)" was produced by TS Media, a segment of the Telekom Srbija company, based on a script by Arsen Diklić and Zafranović himself from 1986.
According to the scenario, in the middle of the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1941, the Croatian Nazi regime founds the Independent State of Croatia, including Jasenovac. Through the intertwined perspectives of victims and perpetrators, Zafranović explores the anatomy of evil.
Serbs, Jews, Roma and Croatian anti-fascists perish at the hands of eight Ustasha killers. One of them rebels briefly, but he himself becomes a victim of the evil he serves.
In order to portray the events of the summer of 1942 as authentically as possible, a complex scenography was built in several locations in Serbia for the needs of that film. The scenography was designed by Milenko Jeremić, who had already collaborated with Zafranović on the film "Occupation in 26 Pictures".
The cast consists of more than a hundred actors and more than 60 professionals from the entire region.
Lordan Zafranović is the winner of the "Belgrade Winner" award of the 51st Festa in 2023 for his outstanding contribution to film art.
