What the election silence looks like in the regime tabloids
The regime media bypasses the election silence by attacking other media for breaking it. Legally mandated electoral silence certainly does not make much sense
Photo: AP Photo/Darko VojinovicIt is not possible to distinguish whether Vučić was protecting Vulin or making excuses for the Americans. It is only clear that he considers his secret service chief to be of limited ability
Aleksandar Vulin is fulfilling the dreams of his youth: like his idol Ernesto Cheguevara, he is the target of the Americans. The mockery ends here because even in a parallel reality, the director of the BIA and the revolutionary from Argentina cannot be compared.
First, Vulin was personally defended by the president of Serbia on television, his double godfather Željko Mitrović. It would be better if it wasn't. Namely, the public would not find out that the director of the BIA was not given complete insight into the case related to the arrest of three Kosovo policemen and that he has no idea what happened then... Opa Bato Gašić - well, it's in the job description for Vulin! If this is not a demonstration that Aleksandar Vučić considers his head of the secret service to be of limited ability, then what is?
The President of Serbia also claims that Vulin was outside the small group of people that formed the government's official position on the war in Ukraine. So, the then Minister of Internal Affairs was not approved by even two percent of the National Security Council? Or maybe they were afraid that everything said there would immediately be typed to the FSB? It is not possible to distinguish whether Vučić is really defending Vulin or making excuses for the Americans.
The director of the BIA - continues the president of Serbia in confusion - is a victim of his policy of refusing to impose sanctions on Moscow, keeping silent that he deliberately appointed him under the nose of the USA: that there will be no cooperation with Vulin, the American ambassador in Belgrade, Christopher Hill, pointed out clearly and loudly at the time. In other words, this is how the altercation with Washington ends - turn around and Vučić and Vulin publicly "list the slaps".
The defensive skit about the Russian background has a good reception in the political market of Serbia, but something else does not. Although there is no mention of the rope in the hanged man's house, Vučić could not avoid the American accusation that Vulin was involved in the drug business. To avoid misunderstandings, we mean the scandalous "state job" related to the Jovanjic case and the testimony of inspector Dušan Mitić that he and his colleagues intended to arrest the boss Batu Gašić... And Vulin, as his predecessor in the public and successor in the secret police, dug up radishes for the boss as much Coluvier and, by the way, claimed that he was a "very serious man".
Vučić also says that he does not trust the Americans to have anything about the head of the BIA, but if they send relevant evidence, he will be prosecuted... Surely he will not declare that it is the revenge of American drug dealers, as he said that Vulin is a victim of Western arms smugglers?
What will happen next? If Vučić dismisses or forces Vulin to resign, it will turn out that Serbia's politics are still being conducted from hateful embassies. If he remains at the head of the BIA, there will be further trouble with the Americans and, almost certainly, the European Union. "His son Vukan" knows how difficult that choice is, Vučić lashed out at host Pink, chirping to the point of self-destruction.
