Serbia suffered from a severe autoimmune disease. This means that the body's defense cells, which protect the body from outside invasion (viruses, bacteria), or from internal disturbances - "rotten" cells, which on a social level corresponds to crime - have turned against the organism itself: instead of fighting against viruses, bacteria, parasites, allergens, they attack healthy tissue by behaving like viruses, bacteria, parasites and allergens, that is, they destroy cells that work normally.
If we stick to medical jargon neutrophil granulocytes (police for example) come to the place of damage (robbery, fire) and through phagocytosis, together with macrophages (firefighters) isolate the area until they can fix the problem. Eosinophilic granulocytes (the army, for example) are involved in the fight against parasites. Basophilic granulocytes (courts and prosecutions) produce antibodies and strengthen the body.
But if medicine has still not managed to understand why the defense cells turn against their own organism, on the political and social level in Serbia the reason is clear: robbery. A group of people who, in free and fair elections, assumed the role of guardians of the law and managers in the name and at the expense of the citizens, turned against their own citizens in order to devastate and then, according to the lawfulness of the autoimmune reaction, kill the organism. The goal of the group in power is not the preservation of the common good - the whole organism - but the destruction of the organism.
But don't they also die with the death of the organism? Not really. Leading cells, before the death of the organism, migrate (the term is medical) outside the organism in their private planes and ships and find refuge, like parasites (albeit unrealistically rich), on another organism. Bashar al-Assad sought refuge in Russia, Nikola Gruevski in Hungary, Milosevic's family also in Russia, Hitler's criminals in Spain, Argentina, Chile...
Elections or increasing repression
But what if an organism, like this Serbian one, shows unexpected tenacity and opposes the frenzied cells?
We leave the metaphor aside at this point. So, after almost nine months of resistance by the citizens of Serbia, we are moving towards possible solutions which, more and more, come down to two: either the regime will call elections, or they will stop paying attention to small things like elections and intensify repression.
What are the prospects for these possibilities, especially the second one?
It will be very difficult for Vučić to find a reason to cancel the elections, because he called them whenever he thought of them, outside of all the better customs of the democratic order. He may try to cause an internal crisis in order to skip the elections, but he has caused fake crises so many times so far - while in real crises, such as floods, helicopter crashes, mass murders in "Ribnikar" and Dubona, the fall of a canopy in Novi Sad and the death of 16 people, or now a fire, he manages disastrously - that it is very difficult to pass. Therefore, he is left with repression.
What exactly does that mean?
Abolition of the few professional media, murders, torture, persecution without regard to legal norms and civilization barriers. But he tried that too. He raised the level of violence very high, but obviously not enough for the citizens to give up the fight for freedom. In addition, it is still a big question whether the police would follow him in torture. Recruited criminals are always happy to respond to the call to violence, here the president of all citizens gave them uniforms, badges and baseball bats, exempted them from criminal prosecution for the work done, and they do what they need to do for him and in his favor.
But will policeman Marko, who took off his mask, introduced himself and explained civilly that he must not move on the road, break the cups on the knees of the same lady if he received such an order? And who would give him such an order? It is understood that a few units can always be assembled from selected psychopaths, but would the police as a whole respond to the call for torture?
If he wants to find out, the president of all citizens will have to try. Finally, in order to complete the Belarusian story, prosecutions and courts are necessary, and in those circles, it seems, not a thousand Vučić flowers bloom. Finally, Lukashenko is broadly based on Putin's tyranny, while Vučić lacks geography. No one can guarantee him success in carrying out torture. So he will have to try. Or he will call the elections and try, according to the tried and tested recipe, to steal them.
