The city of Belgrade has published an urban planning project for a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Sava, which will connect New Belgrade and Čukarica.
The city of Belgrade has put the urban project for the construction of a pedestrian and bicycle path on public view Mosta over Save which connects the municipality of Novi Beograd with the municipality of Čukarica, he writes The new economy.
On the Novobeograd side, the bridge will start from the point between Novobeograd blocks 70 and 70a, and on the other side, the bridge will go down to the reconstructed embankment along the Sava.
The bridge will be accessed from Omladinskih brigada street, with the existing pedestrian and bicycle paths "on the crowns of the Sava embankments on both banks of the Sava".
2025 billion dinars (about 2,63 million euros) are planned for this bridge in the budget of the City of Belgrade for 22,5.
It is planned that the bridge will serve exclusively for the movement of pedestrians and cyclists as well as light ecological vehicles with electric drive, i.e. scooters, skates and other vehicles, to contain only a bicycle and pedestrian path in two directions, with no space for other traffic.
The bridge will be 457 meters long, and six meters wide on the access ramps, while the bridge will be widened to nine meters on the tracks themselves.
On the new pedestrian-bicycle bridge, pedestrians and drivers of light electric vehicles will be able to charge their bicycles and scooters, as there will be at least one charging point on the bridge.
The cycling and pedestrian paths will be separated by tactile visual signaling formed by embedded floor rivets.
Protests in Block 70
Let us remind you that the citizens of Novobeograd blocks 70 and 70a have been opposing the construction of a pedestrian-bicycle bridge for a few years, because it will threaten their quality of life.
As they stated, the reasons why they oppose the construction are numerous. Tenants believe that this project is flawed, and they collected 10.000 signatures. However, it was in vain, because the authorities did not listen to them.
"The project includes Omladinskih Brigada Street, where two garages are planned, which in any case would disrupt life and comfort in these two blocks and beyond." Noise would be created, first of all, pollution, and other anomalies that citizens would have to endure. Another thing is the occupation of green areas for access roads, i.e. spirals that allow potential walkers to climb the bridge and cross to the other side," said Ranko Vlaisavljević, from the Freedom and Justice Party.
Among other things, the citizens fear that the bridge will put an additional load on the Sava embankment, that its width gives it the possibility to find use in regular traffic, and that its use will be seasonal.
They claim that the legal procedures were not followed either - above all, the one about the justification study.
