A man who would take early retirement today at the age of 60 would have a permanent reduction of a maximum of 20,4 percent, because he is five years short of the regular age limit of 65. In that case, his pension it would be less by about 11.600 dinars per month, so he would receive approximately 45.250 dinars.
On the other hand, a woman who, for example, retired early at the age of 62, i.e. two years before the regular age limit of 64, would have a reduction of 8,16 percent, i.e. 0,34 percent for each month of early retirement pension.
Thus, in Serbia, one can retire earlier if certain conditions are met, but with a permanent reduction in the amount.
Who can retire early?
The right to early retirement and old-age pension in 2026 can be exercised by insured persons who have 40 years of service and at least 60 years of age.
Early retirement pension is permanently reduced by 0,34 percent for each month missing until the age of 65 (for women in 2026, up to 64).
The exception is those who work in jobs where seniority is calculated with increased duration, for them the reduction of early retirement is calculated up to the reduced age limit. The reduction cannot be greater than 20,4 percent.
Request for penalty cancellation
Members of Parliament Željko Veselinović from the Workers' Party and Milija Miletić from the United Peasants' Party announced the continuation of the joint political and parliamentary fight for the abolition of permanent penalties for citizens who retire early.
Veselinović at the press conference in To the National Assembly of Serbia pointed out that the Workers' Party fully supports Milija Miletić's initiative to amend the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, assessing that it is a question of social justice and protection of people who have worked for decades and created this country.
"It is unacceptable that people who started working at the age of 18 or 19, after more than four decades of service, should be permanently punished by reducing their pension just because they met the conditions for retirement before the age of 65. Those people have done their working life honestly and the state must provide them with a dignified old age," Veselinović said, according to the Workers' Party.
Miletić said that he had submitted a Proposal for Amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance and that he proposed that it be included in the agenda of the current session, but that his proposal was not accepted.
"The proposal is that the penalty for early retirement should be a temporary measure, only until the age of 65, after which the pensioners would receive a final solution with the full amount of the pension, without reduction," said Miletić.
