One of veterans who was brutally beaten on Wednesday evening in a restaurant near the Military Medical Academy, was on Thursday morning in police to the Savski venac station on the verbal order of the prosecutor for high-tech crime Boris Majlat, and that veteran's mobile phone was taken away, the lawyer and representative of one of the veterans, Predrag Marković, told Vreme.
He says that he was told verbally, "since there is nothing in writing", that the veteran committed the crime of causing panic and disorder.
"That veteran was brought, practically deprived of his liberty, directly from the Military Medical Academy to the Savski Venac police station on the oral order of the prosecutor because of the suspicion that he had committed a criminal offense. Thus, on the same note, there was also a statement regarding the commission of a criminal offense that did not exist, but the prosecutor requested that the veteran's phone be confiscated and that he be questioned about certain circumstances, and his statement as a victim of the circumstances of the injuries and violence suffered," Marković explains.
He states that the report is not a formal report that the veteran made a statement as a victim and as a statement of a potential defendant.
"That veteran was transported to the Savski Venac police station in a police car in the capacity of a citizen, and in that capacity he left the police station," says Marković.
He also says that a police investigation was allegedly carried out in the bar where the veterans were beaten, but he emphasizes that there is no immediate information about this.
Very aggressive attack
Marković explained that on Wednesday, from around 17 p.m., four veterans were sitting in a restaurant near the Military Medical Academy.
Around 19:10, masked people, 15 or XNUMX of them, "very aggressively broke into" the bar and started beating the veterans. They were equipped with baseball bats, "boxers" and telescoping batons, such as are sometimes used by police inspectors, and one of them, acting as a ringleader, carried a pistol in his hand.
"The veterans received hundreds of blows to the head and body. The veteran who was brought to the Savski Venac police station on Thursday morning has hand injuries and severe pain in the ribs and plexus, and he 'did the best.' "Boxers. They were all admitted to the Military Medical Academy," says Marković.
"According to the statements of the veterans, the motive for the attack was that before the attack they shouted 'pump' and declared against the government, and that the beaters were sent to 'stand them up'," says Marković.
He also adds that the owner of the restaurant where the veterans were sitting was also beaten, although he was not with them, but simply happened to be in his bar.
There is no word yet on whether anyone has been identified or taken into custody for the attack on the veterans.
