45 percent of young people are against the introduction of military service, while 44 percent support the idea. 24 percent of young people believe that Kosovo and Metohija will remain part of Serbia, while 20 percent do not think about Kosovo at all.
About 20 percent of young people do not think about Kosovo at all, while when it comes to the return of mandatory military service, opinions are divided, according to the results of the CeSID survey in which a thousand young people between the ages of 15 and 30 were surveyed.
Ivo Čolović from CESID said for RTS that the survey conducted by that organization on a representative sample showed that every fourth young person has a bad relationship with their parents, but also that most decisions are made in consultation with them.
Half and half
Regarding the reintroduction of compulsory military service, it has been shown that those who are no longer at risk of being conscripted are much more inclined to introduce conscription for the younger generation.
"However, young people are also divided on this issue - 45 percent of them oppose the introduction of military service, and 44 percent support it." "Those young people who live in urban areas, such as Belgrade and Vojvodina, young people who come from the ranks of national minorities and those who have a higher education are against the introduction of military service," said Čolović.
On the other hand, those with secondary school, who are currently still in the process of schooling, who come from southern and eastern Serbia, are mostly in favor of introducing military service.
Where is Kosovo?
When it comes to the attitude of young people towards Kosovo and Metohija, he mentioned that they were asked how they see the future of Kosovo and Metohija, whether it is part of Serbia or not, whether Kosovo will be independent or not. According to him, it turned out that 20 percent of young people simply do not think about that topic at the moment.
Young people were also asked about military service, as well as whether they are ready to participate in the defense of Kosovo and Metohija, should it be forcibly separated from Serbia.
"In general, it turned out that 24 percent of young people, which is the largest group, believe that Kosovo and Metohija will remain part of Serbia, and 19 percent believe that we will have some kind of frozen conflict, but, on the other hand, there are 20 percent of those who believe that Kosovo to become independent and even four percent of those who believe that it will unite with Albania," Čolović pointed out.
Instagram source of information
Another interesting question that was asked to young people is how they get information.
"Simply, we have young people today who rely on digital media, primarily social networks. In our research, it turned out that 30 percent of young people in the morning when they wake up, the first thing they look at on their phone is one of the social networks on which they have a profile, in order to determine what they are interested in. Most often it is Instagram, but there are also TikTok and YouTube as some of the networks used. When it comes to traditional media, RTS really leads the way as a media that young people rely on when it comes to political and economic topics, there are also TV Prva and television N1, and Blic as a newspaper," said Čolović.
When it comes to the attitude towards parents, Čolović says that the survey showed that young people in our country were brought up quite traditionally, so this defined their attitude towards their parents.
