This Wednesday, July 22, in the area of the Južnobacka district and city Novi Sad, six people died in traffic accidents, it was announced Ministry of Interior.
In the Juznobacka district, there were seven traffic accidents in which three people died, one suffered serious and six minor injuries.
As it was announced, in the same period, five traffic accidents occurred in Novi Sad where three people died and five were injured, one of them seriously.
428 violations from the Road Traffic Safety Act were sanctioned, while 40 drivers and six vehicles were excluded from traffic.
Four drivers were detained, three for driving under the influence of alcohol and one for repeating or continuing to commit violations.
They will be brought before the competent misdemeanor judge along with misdemeanor charges.
Serbia is the first in Europe in the number of traffic fatalities
The Ministry of the Interior announced at the end of April this year that since the beginning of 2026, 120 people have died on the roads in Serbia, and according to the data of the Traffic Safety Agency, Serbia is the country with the most deaths in traffic accidents with as many as 78 victims per million inhabitants.
Right behind Serbia are Romania with 77 and Bulgaria with 74 deaths per million inhabitants.
The MUP website also states that 500 people die in traffic accidents in our country every year, and the fact that ten children die in traffic every year is particularly worrying.
