Advice Of the European Union approved the start of negotiations on the extension of the regime "Roaming like at home" (Roam Like At Home - RLAH) to the countries of the Western Balkans.
This regime means that the user can make calls, send messages and use mobile internet in Europe without additional fees, using the package they already have in their country.
Telekom Srbija General Manager Vladimir Lučić told RTS that it is realistic to expect Serbia to be in the European roaming system by the beginning of next year at the latest and that there are only a few more steps left to meet the conditions for the new package.
Lučić said that the European Commission should make bilateral agreements with each country, and that after signing the agreement, the roaming rules should be implemented into the law - which Serbia is ready for.
"The rules are being implemented so that every operator is covered by the system. Next summer we will certainly be without roaming, it's just a matter of dynamics," says Lučić.
This system was introduced in Europe in 2017. It originally included all the countries of the European Union, Liechtenstein and Norway, and then on June 1 of this year it was extended to include Ukraine and Moldova.
The general director of Telekom Srbija says that all operators in Europe already have this service, and that there is a small roaming zone of the Western Balkan countries in the region.
He expects that the citizens of Serbia will already be able to use mobile services throughout the European Union during the next summer season without additional roaming costs. He added that the new rules will be valid for all users, regardless of the operator, while the existing packages will also be valid outside the borders of Serbia in the countries that are part of that system.
