Rector University in Belgrade Vladan Đokić said on Tuesday after the meeting in To the Government of Serbia that quotas for admission to faculties will remain at the same number as last year.
Đokić stated that from next week it will be possible to announce competitions for admission to faculties for the next school year.
"We continued discussions with the representatives of the Government of Serbia regarding the request of the academic community. We are still trying to find all the solutions for the requests that we submitted. Today, most of the talk was about budget quotas and it was agreed that those quotas remain at the same number as last year," Djokić said after the meeting at the Government of Serbia.
He added that the Government will hold a session by the end of the week where a decision on quotas will be made.
"Next week, we will be able to announce competitions for the next school year," Djokic said.
He invited "potential candidates to follow the university's website" and see when the entrance exams will be held.
He said that the demands of the academic community have not been resolved, including the one related to the material costs of the faculty.
"We know that the faculties have many claims, so that has not yet been resolved, a plan is being made. The request related to Regulation 35/5 (the ratio of working hours of teaching and scientific work) has not been resolved either, that regulation should be withdrawn," said Đokić.
The professors remain at the crossroads in front of the Government of Serbia
Members of the academic community announced that they will remain at the crossroads in front of the Government of Serbia until the demands they made are met, i.e. until the Government of Serbia withdraws the controversial Decree on Norms and Standards of the Working Conditions of Universities and Faculties for activities financed from the budget.
As they pointed out, the deadline for that is the end of June and the Government session that will be held this week.
A representative of the academic community protesting in front of the Government of Serbia said after the meeting between Rector Vladan Đokić and Prime Minister Đur Macut that Thursday or Friday is the last session before the end of June, when the deadline for the fulfillment of the requirements is.
She reminded that the members of the informal Academic Community have two requests - the cancellation of the Regulation and the request to announce budget quotas.
"We hope that it will be fulfilled at the last session of the Government. These are prerequisites for the work of the academic community," she stated.
