On the website of the Public Enterprise "Roads of Serbia" it was announced that from tomorrow, October 29, a temporary change in the traffic regime will come into force, which will last until November 10, 2025. During that period, certain roads leading to Novi Sad, where a large commemorative gathering will be held on November 1 on the occasion of the anniversary of the tragedy at the Railway Station where 16 people died.
The announcement states that the reason for the closure of traffic is "road rehabilitation", and as alternative routes, the routes that lead mainly via Surčin and Batajnica are listed.
According to the announced schedule, from October 29 at 12:00 p.m. to November 10 at 2:00 p.m., work will be carried out on state road IA, order number 1 (Belgium interchange), with the following closure of traffic directions:
Novi Sad - Belgrade / Aerodrom NT, indirect ramp - closed to traffic;
Novi Sad - Šid, direct ramp - closed to traffic;
Belgrade - Čačak / Niš, indirect ramp - closed to traffic;
Šid - Novi Sad, parallel ramp - closed to traffic;
Novi Sad - Niš / Čačak, traffic takes place in the overtaking lane in both directions;
Niš / Čačak - Novi Sad, traffic takes place in the driving and stopping lanes;
Šid - Belgrade / Aerodrom NT, normal flow of traffic.
Officially, "Roads of Serbia" state that the works will be carried out "for the sake of safety and preservation of the road infrastructure", but the timing coincides with the announced commemorative gathering caused different reactions from the public. Some citizens and users of social networks suspect that the "works" are actually part of "enhanced security measures" ahead of the gathering where a large number of people are expected, i.e. to make it as difficult as possible for citizens to reach Novi Sad.
As a reminder, the commemoration on the occasion of the anniversary of the fall of the canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station will be held on November 1. The gathering of citizens is planned from 10 a.m. at several locations in the city, and at 11:52 a.m. - the moment when the tragedy occurred - a minute of silence will be held.
