The fire, which broke out in the night between Friday and Saturday, affected several buildings in the industrial zone in Novi Pazar
Members of the fire and rescue services managed to locate the large one fire which engulfed the industrial complex in Novi Pazar, after several hours of heavy fighting with the fire, and according to the information so far, there are no casualties.
The fire engulfed several buildings in Dimitrija Tucovića Street and caused great material damage.
According to the commander of the Fire and Rescue Unit, the most critical phase has been overcome, and the priority remains the prevention of rekindling and spreading of the fire.
As it was pointed out, this is the most extensive and demanding fire intervention ever recorded in that city. Although the situation is still serious, the fire has lost the power of uncontrolled spread thanks to the great effort and sacrifice of all teams engaged in the field, writes FoNet.
In addition to Novi Pazar firefighters, units from several cities also participated in the extinguishing, which arrived during the night and morning as assistance.
Millions in damage
According to the information so far, there were no casualties in the fire, but enormous material damage was caused. The first unofficial estimates say that the losses are measured in millions of dinars, while the exact amount will be known only after the shutdown and the investigation.
Competent services appeal to citizens not to approach the affected area, to be careful and to follow only official notifications. Firefighters and other emergency services will remain on the scene until the last danger has been removed.
According to unofficial information obtained by Sandzak today, the cause of the fire is most likely a human factor. It is suspected that the fire broke out after the ash from the pellet boiler, which was assumed to have been completely extinguished, was deposited. The ashes, as stated, were left in a room intended for waste, in the central part of the warehouse complex.
Thick smoke first appeared in that area, without visible flames, which is why the people who were in the building at the time did not immediately notice the danger and left the area. Upon the arrival of the firefighters, the conditions for the intervention were extremely difficult due to the smoke, so hydraulic equipment was used to enter the building.
At the moment of breaking the door, there was a sudden penetration of oxygen, which caused a strong flare-up of fire that quickly spread to the surrounding rooms and warehouses.
