The worker who fell on construction site u Novi Pazar on Thursday, he succumbed to his injuries, many media reported.
He was transported to the Novi Pazar General Hospital with chest injuries from which he later died, according to unofficial information.
Cases of worker deaths on Serbian construction sites are nothing new.
Out of 120 workers, 24 died
Demostat data show that six out of every 100 construction workers in the European Union die, while in Serbia that ratio is even four times higher.
According to the data of the Republic Institute of Statistics, 2022 thousand people were employed in the construction sector in Serbia in 120, and 27 of them died.
In the monograph "Criminal offenses in the field of work", which was co-authored by Mario Reljanović, it is stated that in only three percent of cases where a worker is killed, someone ends up in prison, and as a rule for a maximum of one year. The responsible person at the employer is punished in four percent of cases with house arrest, and in seven percent with probation.
"Obviously, much more attention should be paid to the criminal responsibility of the responsible persons at the employer, because that would obviously be the way to take better security measures," Reljanović told "Vreme".
In 2018, when two workers at the construction site in Belgrade died in the water, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, expressing his condolences to the families, said: "That's life, those are the things that happen."
