In Leskovac, a 51-year-old man was excluded from traffic these days because he was driving bike with 4,93 parts per thousand of alcohol in the body, they report Southern news.
In order to inflate almost five per thousand, a man weighing, say, 85 kilograms needs to drink about fifteen beers or almost a liter of brandy beforehand. It is a great achievement to climb it bicycle, but it is dangerous for everyone in traffic.
In addition to the 51-year-old, in Leskovac, a cyclist who was driving under the influence of three different drugs: cocaine, marijuana, and amphetamines was excluded from traffic and detained.
Since cyclists are also participants, the same rules apply to them as to drivers of motor vehicles. The law stipulates that a bicycle driver who is under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances must not drive this vehicle.
"A bicycle is a vehicle, and the one who rides it is the driver." Whether he is nine or 36, he is the driver and drives the vehicle. He must know driving techniques, traffic rules, his vehicle must be technically correct, have lights, identical to cars, except that it does not have registration, insurance and the like. He is obliged to follow traffic rules and must not drive while intoxicated and drive violently," Igor Velić, who heads the Association for Traffic Safety "Sigurne Staze" and advocates for more driving, told the newspaper "Danas" earlier. by bicycle.
Alcohol and blood alcohol level
Violent driving is defined as driving a vehicle in a state of complete intoxication (more than two per thousand).
The prescribed punishment for violent driving can be a prison sentence of 30 to 60 days and a fine in the amount of 120.000 to 140.000 dinars, which applies to all drivers.
A driver who drives a vehicle under the influence of alcohol more than 1,20 mg/ml to 2,00 mg/ml will be punished with at least 15 days in prison or a fine of 100.000 dinars to 120.000 dinars.
And when he is highly intoxicated, the penalty is from 20.000 to 40.000 dinars, or up to 30 days in prison.
Admittedly, Velić thinks that it is unfair to apply it equally to bicycle and, say, bus drivers.
"It is not the same to ride a bicycle with 2,00 or 4,00 per thousand of alcohol in the body and a car." That unruly cyclist certainly has no great justification for it and he can endanger his own life, and the driver of a car with 2,00 or 4,00 per thousand can exceed the speed limit, pass a red light, not only his own, but he can also endanger everyone's life who move in its immediate vicinity, and legally it is treated as the same", he said.
But, for now, according to the law, it is the same and a drunk cyclist from Leskovac is threatened with prison and a fine.
