The people of Pančević are trying to peacefully remove the illegal billboard with the image of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, which is guarded by the police day and night. He also represents, they say, a security risk
With the slogan "Defense from billboards", the citizens of Pancevo have been teaching since Thursday morning requirements to his City Administration to remove the billboard with the person who is currently serving as the President of the Republic from the public area at the entrance to the city. The billboard is located on the public surface, above the "Pančevo" sign, at the corner of Dimitrija Tucovića and Moše Pijada streets, and near it is the headquarters of the City Committee of the Serbian Progressive Party.
As they say, the composition of this billboard, which has been welcoming everyone who enters the city for years, outside of the campaign, violates a number of regulations, which is why it is necessary that it be removed legally.
Instead of violent actions, dozens of citizens self-organized in an initiative to submit a request to the Secretariat for Inspection Affairs to, in the interest of the citizens of Pancevo, order the removal of "this illegal and inappropriate content from the billboard in question."
Security risk
There are several arguments for this - one is that the image of the person who performs the function of the president is highlighted with the party symbol, and the request states a number of other arguments, including that the billboard represents a threat to security and public order and peace. Because it is a daily occurrence that citizens passing by this billboard openly shout offensive slogans, blow their horns or otherwise protest, so the billboard in its current state represents an undoubted security risk, they state in the request to the city inspection.
At the entrance to their city, as the people of Pančević say, there should be a more appropriate content or image of one of the greats of Pančević culture and history, such as Đorđe Vajfert, Urođ Predić, Mihailo Pupin, Jovan Jovanović Zmaj, Isidore Sekulić, Miloš Crnjanski, the Jovanović brothers, proto Vasa Živković, Mika Antić or Radoslav Petković. Unlike these great men, the citizen in question never lived in Pančevo, nor did he influence the life of the city in any other way, through scientific, cultural or economic activities.
The action, which is spreading on social networks, is being joined by an increasing number of citizens, and the people of Pančev say "you can do the same in your town".
