Since the beginning of 2026, the Ministry of Interior has issued more than 70 announcements about arrests for trafficking, possession and production of narcotics. Where do so many drugs come from in Serbia?
From the record seizure five tons of marijuana near Kruševac at the end of January to the new 200 kilograms found at the Batrovci border crossing this May, Serbia has recorded an almost continuous series of police actions against trafficking since the beginning of the year narcotics.
Hardly a week goes by without news of new arrests, growing labs marijuana or dozens of kilograms of drugs found on roads, borders and in apartments across the country.
Ministry of Interior (MUP) has issued more than 70 announcements about arrests for the cultivation, trafficking and possession of narcotics since the beginning of 2026.
Marijuana is the most common, but cocaine, amphetamine, heroin also appear, and in some cases psychoactive mushrooms are also seized.

The last news arrived on May 12, when the police arrested DK (1974) from Novi Sad due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he had committed the criminal offense of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs.
An examination of the cargo motor vehicle he was driving at the Batrovci border crossing revealed about 200 kilograms of marijuana and about 2,4 kilograms of cocaine.
The suspect was detained for up to 48 hours and, with a criminal report, will be taken to the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Sremska Mitrovica, the MUP announced.
The biggest action took place at the end of January in the village of Konjuh near Kruševac, where the police found as many as five tons of marijuana, packed and prepared for further distribution.
Drugs were discovered in the warehouses of a company, and weapons were also found during the operation, including automatic rifles and pistols. This is the largest seizure of marijuana in the history of Serbia.
The case immediately exceeded the scope of a classic police action. In addition to the investigation into international smuggling channels and connections with companies from North Macedonia that are involved in the production of medical cannabis, political polemics also followed about the suspects' possible connections with local government structures. At the same time, the conflict between the prosecutor's offices about who is responsible for the action was conducted.

However, the seizure near Kruševac did not remain an isolated case. During the following months, the police found dozens and hundreds of kilograms of marijuana in trucks, cars and improvised laboratories all over Serbia.
In Vranje, for example, the transport of dozens of kilograms of drugs was intercepted, and cannabis plantations were found in several places.
According to the announcements of the MUP, actions were carried out in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, Subotica, Čačak, Sremska Mitrovica and numerous other places.
The question is how many drugs remain undetected.
