The Minister of Education announced today, on the eve of the beginning of the school year, that first and second grade students will receive national reading books during the school year, followed by other students successively.
Information we recently published, that the national reading books, a textbook introduced by President Vučić's initiative, will not be ready until the first day of the school year, the Minister of Education Slavica Đukić Dejanović confirmed today in the newspaper "Politika".
Minister Đukić Dejanović specified that the students of the first and second grades will receive national reading books during the school year, and after them successively the other students.
She said that the national reading book will adequately acquaint students with tradition, language, art and the past.
"Students of first and second grade will be able to get to know their past through a large number of picture messages in the reading books and make this manual one of their favorites growing up," specified the minister.
The minister did not explain why the students of all primary and secondary schools in Serbia will not have this textbook, which indicates the favoritism of national history.
She announced the introduction of a greater number of physical education classes since, in her words, this will have a positive effect on children's health and their cognitive functions.
Regarding the amendments to the Criminal Code aimed at increasing the safety of teachers and preventing attacks on them, Đukić Dejanović said that there will be stricter sanctions for those who "behave improperly towards school employees".
She added that after the adoption of those changes, those who attack educators will receive the same punishment as if they attacked a lawyer.
