Professor Darko Nadić was proposed as acting dean Faculty of Political Sciences, was confirmed for "Vreme" from several sources.
The entire Teaching and Research Council of the faculty supported the proposal, seeing in it a way out of trench warfare of the two currents who threatened to suffocate the faculty before the start of the new school year.
The final decision is made by the FPN Council, which represents professors, the state as the founder, and students.
Orlović on the ice for now?
The split occurred when professor Slaviša Orlović - who was previously proposed by the teaching staff with a majority of votes - received only 13 votes in the Council, which normally has 27 members, at the vote in June.
Previously, several members resigned, protesting Orlović's possible election, and because of anonymous complaints by female students against him for sexual harassment.
Orlović claimed that he was legally elected dean by the majority of the remaining members of the council, while outgoing dean Dragan Simić and the faculty ombudsman claimed that an absolute majority of 27 votes was required for election.
That situation threatened to paralyze the faculty, although the decision of the Council was made in June registered at the university and it seemed that Orlović could enter the dean's cabinet, since Simić's mandate expires on the last day of September.
Professor Marko Simendić proposed Nadić for the position of dean.
A little quiet in public
Darko Nadić has been at the Faculty of Political Sciences since the beginning of his academic career in 1989, and has been a full professor since 2012.
Nadić teaches several subjects dealing with ecology.
He is not as prominent in the public eye as many other FPN professors.
In 2019, he was among the signatories of support for civil protests in Serbia, when 84 professors and associates of FPN publicly supported those protests.
When the Committee for Environmental Protection of the University of Belgrade recently advocated against lithium mining, Nadić sent a statement to the media in which he distanced himself from the position of the Committee of which he is a member.
As he stated, the issue is complicated and in-depth and requires a serious discussion by scientists and society, and a definitive position cannot yet be reached.
