According to statistics, Zlatibor has been the most visited mountain in Serbia for years. Although its center has long been referred to as a "city on a mountain" where there is less greenery than in New Belgrade blocks, and investors from various parts of Serbia are building high-rise buildings, Zlatiborci has increasingly ambitious plans, including an airport for small sports planes, writes RTS.
Three decades have passed since the first idea and announcement of the construction of what was then a private airport. The field close to the center of the mountain, which according to the spatial plan is intended for a runway for small planes, is again relevant in the plans of the municipality of Čajetin.
"We have determined the public interest in this area and now we are slowly using it for filling and borrowing for this ring road around Zlatibor, so that we will have the terrain prepared very soon and later we can start with the construction of the airport runway, which would be somewhere in the length of 1000 meters ", said the President of the Municipality of Čajetina, Milan Stamatović.
In recent years, there are more and more hotels with 4 or 5 stars on Zlatibor. Some of their guests would like to get to the mountain faster and easier, without traffic jams. Zlatiborci also count on wealthy visitors who will come to the future golf courses near Ribnički jezera.
"It would open some new markets for which we certainly have the potential to present ourselves, to better promote ourselves in those destinations, and that with the infrastructure, opening the airport will bring us a new clientele to Zlatibor and ensure occupancy of the newly opened accommodation facilities," said the director of TO Zlatibor Vladimir Zivanović.
Zlatiborci will wait for the guests who will fly straight to the mountain.
"We are slowly preparing, we are working on planning and project documentation, and the idea is that in about 3-4 years, the airport and golf courses and these 20 or so sports fields will be put into operation," says Stamatović.
