Three young men from Niksic who were taken into custody on Sunday Kosovo because of the words "Kosovo is Serbia" on the license plates, the Basic Court in Pec ordered a one-month detention today.
After the celebration of the holiday in the Visoki Dečani monastery on Sunday, young men were arrested for writing "Kosovo is Serbia" on the plates of vehicles with registration plates of the city of Nikšić.
They were then interrogated and detained for 48 hours, writes KoSSev.
The following day, on Monday, a request was submitted to the Basic Court in Peja, branch in Dečan, to order their detention.
The young man's lawyer, Jovana Filipović, announced that she will appeal the Court's decision when the Court's decision is delivered to the young men in Serbian.
She emphasized that she was not surprised by the decision.
"Unfortunately, in such proceedings, detention is regularly assigned to all those who belong to the non-Albanian population, that is, who declare themselves non-Albanian," said Filipović.
Reactions from Montenegro
Following the news that three young men from Nikšić were sentenced to one-month detention by the Kosovo authorities today, the first reactions came from Montenegro condemning the actions of the Kosovo judicial authorities in that case.
"I condemn the actions of the authorities in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, which ordered the detention of three young men from Nikšić who were at the Visoki Dečani monastery on Sunday, said the president of the Nikšić municipality," Marko Kovačević.
He only had accusations against Prishtina and pointed out that the arrest of his fellow citizens is the use of force, which "cannot be good from any side".
"I don't think that this behavior of the local authorities contributes to peace and stability in the Balkans," Kovačević said.
Vladimir Dobričanin, deputy of the United Montenegro, also reacted, characterizing the whole case as "Kurti's terror", in an attempt to "dissuade Serbs from visiting their holy places".
He directed criticism at, as he states, the lack of reaction of Montenegrin officials regarding the arrest and detention of Montenegrin citizens.
"Just because they had a sticker on their car saying 'Kosovo is Serbia!' And what would you do? Nothing! Muk!" said Dobričanin.
"It is inadmissible to remain silent on this," said Dobričanin, adding that "brothers from Nikšić" went on a pilgrimage.
